UK passport holders are generally granted a 90-day visa-free social visit pass on arrival for tourism or business meetings, among the longest allowances Malaysia offers. Most European Union and wider European nationalities receive similarly generous visa-free terms, though exact stay durations can vary slightly by country — check our individual country pages for your specific nationality before assuming the UK terms apply identically.

As with every visa-exempt nationality, this visa-free entitlement is separate from, and does not replace, the mandatory MDAC submission required of nearly all foreign visitors regardless of visa status.

The MDAC's accommodation address section asks for a Malaysian postcode — a 5-digit numeric code specific to Malaysia's postal system, structurally different from UK alphanumeric postcodes (like SW1A 1AA) or most European formats. Travellers who paste in their home address postcode, or leave the field blank expecting it to be optional, are the most frequent source of "postcode does not match state" validation errors. Always use the 5-digit code from your Malaysian hotel or host's confirmed address — it's listed on virtually every hotel booking confirmation.

Malaysia's MDAC form follows a day/month/year convention. Travellers used to the month/day/year format common in North America (and occasionally defaulted to out of habit by others) sometimes transpose their arrival date incorrectly — for example entering the 8th of March as 03/08 instead of 08/03. Double-check the date picker's displayed format rather than typing digits from memory.

Flight number formatting is another minor but common snag: enter it exactly as shown on your boarding pass or e-ticket (airline code plus digits, no spaces), matching how the airline itself reports it, not a rounded or abbreviated version.
