Under the current arrangement, Indian passport holders travelling for tourism, social visits, or short business meetings do not need to apply for a Malaysian visa in advance for stays within the permitted duration. This is separate from, and does not replace, the MDAC requirement — the visa-free entry covers your right to enter without a visa sticker or e-visa; the MDAC is the mandatory digital arrival declaration every non-exempt foreign visitor must file regardless of their visa status.

If your visit is for purposes outside the visa-free categories — long-term work, study, or extended stays — you'll need to check Malaysia's separate visa requirements for Indian nationals before travel; the MDAC alone does not grant any extended-stay or work rights.

By far the most common issue is a name mismatch: Indian passports sometimes render names differently between the printed data page and the machine-readable zone (MRZ) at the bottom of the passport, particularly with longer names, initials expanded to full names, or surnames split across fields. Always type your name into the MDAC form exactly as the MRZ shows it (the two lines of machine-readable text at the bottom of your passport's photo page), not necessarily how it reads on the printed line above.

The second most common issue is the Malaysian accommodation postcode field — this requires the actual 5-digit Malaysian postal code of your hotel or host address, not an Indian PIN code or a placeholder. Most hotel booking confirmations list this clearly; if travelling to multiple cities, use the postcode of your first night's accommodation.

While not entered on the MDAC form itself, Malaysian immigration officers can request proof of onward or return travel and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay, particularly for first-time visitors. Carrying a printed or digital copy of your return flight, hotel confirmation, and a recent bank statement or forex card balance is good practice — this is standard for most visa-exempt entries worldwide, not something unique to Malaysia.
